For over 20 years, the Westport School of Music offered a Music Therapy program called MusicWorks! This program takes place on Saturday mornings during the school year. Music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish physical, emotional, cognitive, and social goals. Our Board-Certified music therapist develops trusting relationships which encourage children and adults who may have developmental delays, autism or other physical and/ or mental disabilities, to express themselves without judgement and grow in self-confidence. MusicWorks! sessions employ a variety of structured and improvised musical activities including singing, instrument playing, rhythm and movement, song-writing, listening, imaging and relaxation techniques, to meet individual needs in a goal-oriented manner. Activities are specifically designed for cognitive, emotional, psychological, physical and social concerns.
